Shantih Haast, Owner and chief engineer at Studio 770, has over 40 years experience working in the music industry with artists such as David Benoit, Steve Allen, Clint Black, Al Jareau, Tim Weisberg, Dave Koz, Marilyn McCoo, Dan Brubeck, Ron Kobayashi, Jonathan Moffett, Eric Marienthal, Hiroshima, Jac Redford, Jack Sheldon, Dan St. Marsielle, Llew Matthews, Luis Conte and Alex Acuna, to name a few.
Since 1982, she has been busy on the Los Angeles recording scene. Her early career centered around artists such as The Bangles, Roy Bitton, Dan Slider, Dann Glenn, Andy John, Henry Louey and Chris Mancini at Skyline Recording Studio in Topanga Canyon, California.
In 1987 Shantih graduated from the composition and arranging program at Dick Grove's School of Music. There, she wrote in many styles from big band, country western and pop, to film scoring with full orchestra. She continued her education at Cal State University Northridge in music composition where she focused on orchestral compositions of contrapuntal non-tonal music.
Working with the Fairlight music system, she had extensive training in electronic music and midi based systems under the renowned composer, Dr. Beverly Grigsby. After graduating in 1996, she joined David Benoit's recording team at his 29th Street Studio in Torrance, CA.
In 2000 Shantih opened Studio 770 in Brea, CA, where she is owner/operator and chief engineer. Specializing in Jazz and Classical music production, Shantih also produces many local singer-songwriters. The studio sports a vintage Steinway grand piano as well as a vast collection of vintage microphones and outboard gear.
Starting in September of 2013, Shantih began Studio 770's popular
Open Mic Recording Sessions. Each month these events offer eight
performers the opportunity to record with an incredible jazz trio
consisting of Ron Kobayashi (piano), Sam Montooth (Bass) and Isaac
Sanchez (Drums). The public is welcome to cheer on the performers,
along with the complementary wine and hors d'vores... these studio
sessions resemble a club scene where musicians can network while
